Ohana Day In Seal Beach Saturday April 16th

There are few sports that connect its athletes directly with nature in the way surfing connects us with the ocean- as a result we as surfers have a greater responsibility to preserve the quality and well being of the beaches that have come to define the lifestyles we live and love.  That’s why this Saturday the 16th we will be down at the Seal Beach Pier to support the Surfrider Foundation in their 9th annual Ohana Family Day in a day an effort to spread a little environmental awareness while enjoying a day of fun and music down on the sand. The Huntington Beach/Seal Beach chapter of the Surfrider Foundation and Foam E-Z have a long history of involvement and mutual support, “since day one” as shop owner Brad Nadell puts it. Brad is a through and through Seal Beach native having grown up surfing the pier as a young grom, eventually working as an air-sprayer at Harbour Surfboards and then opening up Foam E-Z to serve the local shaping community. As a result of our shops history in the area, we were of course eager to jump on a chance to give back to the community that has allowed our shop to thrive and grow, as well as helping to spread awareness of environmental responsibility and education for the place we all consider to be a second home. In addition to the free surf lessons, beach clean up, and music stage Surfrider will be offering, we will have our own booth featuring some of our range of environmentally friendly products and knowledgeable staff, as well as some free swag and raffles you won’t want to miss out on. Be sure to stop by from 9-1 on Saturday, you’ll find us under the blue Foam E-Z tent!

Ohana Kemp Fest

This past weekend we caught up with one of our long time customers Dennis Kemp of Ohana Kemp Surfboards! Every July Dennis and his family put on a free all day event at Doheny State Beach for any and all to come and enjoy free food and drinks (Breakfast and lunch and BEER).The event features a surf contest with secret judges on the beach, a Bocce Ball Tournament, a board swap, live Polynesian dancers, and a massive raffle. The raffle items consisted of 6 Ohana Kemp longboards, and we donated a blank and 5 hours of professional shaping lessons. A new board bag was also included to carry your new self-shaped stick!

What more could you ask for on a perfect summer day? Hope to see you all at next years event!

OHANA DAY 2011 In Seal Beach This Saturday!!!

Come on down to the Seal Beach Pier this Saturday for Ohana Day, i'ts gonna be a great time. We will be set up giving out goodies and have some blanks/free shape time in the Box to raffle off! Many local surf businesses will be down there donating stuff to the raffle.

The day is sponsored by the Huntington and Seal Beach Surfrider chapters – brings out beach-goers for a day of fun for the family (translated to ohana in Hawaiian). And with Earth Day celebrated this weekend, it’s a perfect way to educate the youth on keeping beaches clean and safe.

It’s always a good time, with plenty of fun and educational booths set up on the sand. Last year, there was a sting ray exhibit where kids could pet the rays – don’t worry, the stingers were pulled out!

There’s also a demonstration by lifeguards and free surf lessons for the kids on a first come, first serve basis by M & M surf school, as well as skate ramps set up in the parking lot.

And there’s plenty of be raffled off, with proceeds benefiting Surfrider Foundation!

Hope to see you there.
